Subscribe NowIndiana farmers are nearly finished planting this year’s corn crop following a wet spring marked by repeated planting delays. The U.S. Agriculture Department’s weekly crop report says 90 percent of Indiana’s corn crop had been planted by Sunday. That compares with 93 percent at this time last year and a five-year average of 98 percent. A month ago, Indiana farmers had only 11 percent of their corn in the ground. Meanwhile, 69 percent of the state’s intended soybean acreage had been planted by Sunday. That compares with 71 percent at this time last year and a five-year average of 87 percent.
