Builders filed 318 single-family construction permits in the nine-county area in January, exactly the same number they filed in the first month of 2015, the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis said Thursday morning.
The month was consistent with 2015's full-year pace, when permit filings rose less than 1 percent over the previous year.
Marion County saw a 24 percent fall in filings last month compared with January 2014, from 62 to 47.
As usual, Hamilton County led the area in filings, with 154, a 45 percent increase from the previous January.
Hendricks was the next busiest county, with 45 permits, up 15 percent.
Filings were down 49 percent in Johnson County, to 24, and dropped 25 percent in Hancock County, to 18.
In Boone County, permits fell 43 percent, to 17.
Madison, Morgan and Shelby counties all recorded filings in the single digits.
