The Indiana Democratic Party says it won't file a court challenge to U.S. Rep. Todd Young's placement on the ballot for U.S. Senate.

Party Chairman John Zody said Friday that it's in the party's best interest not to pursue the matter further.

Democrats as well as Young's GOP primary opponent, U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman, had challenged Young's candidacy, arguing he hadn't gathered the 500 required petition signatures from each of the state's nine congressional districts. An Associated Press analysis of Young's petitions found he was three signatures short in northwestern Indiana's 1st Congressional District.

The Indiana Election Commission heard the challenge last month but deadlocked 2-2 along party lines, keeping Young on the ballot.

Stutzman's campaign didn't immediately respond to an inquiry Monday morning about a possible court challenge.
