Hancock County Auditor Linda Grass resigned today in a letter from her attorney to county commissioners. Attorney James McNew wrote that Grass’ resignation should not be considered an admission of guilt and that she hoped that by stepping down county residents would continue to have confidence in their elected officials.
State police say Grass accepted payments of about $54,000 in exchange for a contract for courthouse repairs totaling about $238,000 that was not approved by the county commissioners.
The Hancock County Republican Party will schedule a caucus to select a replacement for Grass.
