The Indianapolis City-County Council last night approved $450,000 to keep the Marion County Children’s Guardian Home in operation with its director and a part-time worker as its only staffers. The action also called for a plan to be developed on a new use for the facility on the city’s east side.
Councilman Benjamin Hunter said 28 home employees would lose their jobs despite the funding approval.
Although the home has space for 80 children, it averaged 28 last year. State officials are planning to place homeless, abused or neglected children with foster families rather than in larger institutions.
