This month, Indianapolis-based Marsh announced it had signed a long-term contract making Minneapolis-based Supervalu Inc. its primary grocery wholesaler.
The move is a shift from Marsh’s current wholesaler, New Hampshire-based C&S Wholesale Grocers. That contract expires Sept. 24.
Wholesale Grocers subsidiaries Indianapolis Haulage LLC and Indianapolis Logistics LLC filed mass layoff notices on Friday with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, as well as local officials in Indianapolis and Muncie.
According to these notices, Indianapolis Logistics and Indianapolis Haulage plan to close warehouses in Yorktown and Indianapolis because of the loss of the Marsh contract. The closures will cause 116 Indianapolis employees and 71 Yorktown employees to lose their jobs between Sept. 16 and Sept. 29.
The Indianapolis warehouse is located at 333 S. Franklin Road on the far-east side.
The job losses represent a mix of union and non-union employees. The union employees are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 135.
