The monthly service charge for gas usage for residential consumers would increase from $5.79 to $12. The average monthly residential bill would go from $65.93 to $71.37. For residential wastewater, the minimum monthly rate would rise from $51.10 to $64.09.
For commercial customers, the gas usage rate would jump from $5.79 to $37. The minimum sewer charge for commercial would be set at $64.09 for those using 5/8-inch and 3/4-inch meters and $155.81 for customers with larger meter sizes.
The higher gas rates are expected to increase the utility’s annual operating revenue about 16.2 percent. Citizens says the rate increase is necessary to accommodate rising operating and maintenance costs and new infrastructure investments.
The sewer utility’s annual revenue would increase nearly 25.3 percent.
The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor is accepting written requests and comments on the gas rate increase until Sept. 21 and wastewater rate increase comments until Nov. 10.•
