Subscribe NowAllen Commercial Group plans a $2.6 million development on Main Street in Greenwood that will include a 28,000-square-foot flex building containing office and warehouse space, the city of Greenwood announced Thursday.
Called Greenwood Business Center, the development is planned for an 11-acre site about a quarter-mile east of Interstate 65.
Greenwood’s Redevelopment Commission recently approved $252,000 to fund sewer extensions, a stormwater retention pond and drainage system, and an access drive on the property’s west end.
“There is significant opportunity on the south side, particularly Greenwood,” J. Greg Allen, CEO of Allen Commercial Group, said in a written statement. “We felt the time was right to move forward with Greenwood Business Center, and we thank the city and redevelopment commission for their support.”
Officials think the project will boost Greenwood's recently announced Granting Revitalization and Opportunity for the Workplace, or GROW, initative. The program seeks to improve the aesthetic appeal of businesses along some of the city’s most-traveled roadways.
