Home builders filed 345 single-family construction permits in the nine-county area during the month, a 7 percent increase over the 321 they filed in January 2016, BAGI said.
Area filings have risen on a year-over-year basis in 17 of the last 18 months. The only decrease during that span was a 1 percent dip in November 2015.
Hamilton County, as usual, led the area in permit filings, with 155 last month, but that was a 12 percent decrease over the previous January.
Permit filings in Marion County were up 13 percent, with 53 filed last month.
Hendricks County saw a 6 percent decrease in filings, to 44.
Filings were up 63 percent in Johnson County, to 39, and rose 72 percent in Hancock County, to 31.
In Boone County, filings increased 41 percent, to 24. Madison County saw filings rise from six to 10.
Morgan County saw one filing and Shelby County had six.
