The facility will be located in the Vigo County Industrial Park and is expected to employ up to 100 people by the end of 2018, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said.
The company is set to break ground on the 83,000-square-foot facility next month and begin poultry production next spring.
“We are fortunate to have Select Genetics, a world leader in poultry breeding, bringing their state-of-the-art genetics and capabilities to the Hoosier State,” Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director Ted McKinney said in written comments.
According to the National Turkey Federation, Indiana raised 19.3 million turkeys in 2015, making it the fourth largest producer in the nation behind Arkansas (27.5 million), North Carolina (31 million) and Minnesota (41 million).
Select Genetics was recently established through the merger of Iowa-based Valley of the Moon Commercial Poults and Ag Forte/Willmar Poultry Co. This will be the company’s first Indiana operation and ninth overall. The company has 1,400 employees nationwide.
The IEDC offered Select Genetics up to $400,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $150,000 in training grants, based on the job-creation plans. The incentives hinge on the company's ability to meet hiring goals.
Vigo County is considering additional incentives.
