Chicago-based marketing technology company Aprimo, which has a major presence in Indianapolis, has acquired Belgium-based digital asset management firm ADAM Software.

Aprimo announced the acquisition Thursday. The deal closed Wednesday. Financial details were not disclosed.

Aprimo helps marketers manage their planning, spending, content creation, distribution and performance. The company was founded in Indianapolis in 1998 and has gone through a number of ownership changes since then. It now is based in Chicago and has its global research and development offices and customer support office in Indianapolis, along with international operations based in London.

ADAM was founded in 2004. Its software allows clients to create, manage and distribute marketing material. Its customer base includes retailers IKEA and The Home Depot, along with toymaker Lego, Philips, Viacom and others.

“Our merger with ADAM will further expand our marketing asset management solutions and enable us to offer a complete enterprise-class content solution. The combination creates a robust platform that addresses the growing content needs of marketers worldwide, with the strategic planning, intelligent workflow, and insights offered through Aprimo,” Aprimo CEO John Stammen said in written comments.

“As a leader in marketing operations, we are firmly committed to bringing the best-in-class marketing hub to CMOs and empowering their teams to have one place to go for the visibility and agility they need to get richer content and campaigns in market–on plan and across all channels," he said. "This acquisition directly supports that commitment.”

ADAM CEO Pieter Casneuf said in a written statement that the combined company "significantly expands our global footprint and our relationships with customers and partners. We couldn’t be more excited to combine forces with Team Aprimo."

Casneuf will become senior vice president and general manager of Aprimo Smart Content Solutions. The rest of ADAM’s team will also join Aprimo.

Pre-acquisition, Aprimo had about 400 employees. Information on ADAM’s employee count was not available by deadline Thursday.
