locations in northwestern Indiana.
A Powers Energy of America official said the Evansville-based company expects
to apply for a state waste-handling permit within 45 days for a site near Schneider, Lowell or Crown Point in southern Lake
County.
Company vice president Ken Bosar told the Post-Tribune of Merrillville that the plant would be the first
of its kind in the country and have about 165 full-time workers. The company hopes to start construction next spring.
Lake County Solid Waste director Jeff Langbehn said the plant could take up to 10,000 tons of trash a day, while the county
averages some 6,000 tons of municipal and commercial waste a day.
