Stephanie White left the Indiana Fever after the 2016 season and went right into the college coaching season with Vanderbilt. Despite getting no break and finishing with a 14-16 record, she’s happy with the decision.
“Academically, it’s one of the best institutions in the country,” she said. “Athletically, it’s in one of the best leagues in the country. It’s in an amazing city and it’s a university with a vision to create future leaders.”
White spent two seasons as the Fever’s head coach, leading the team to the WNBA Finals in 2015, and she said there’s a big difference between coaching in the pros and coaching in college. “But I missed little things,” she said, “like the band and the spirit of college athletics, and big things, like an opportunity to make an impact in the lives of young people.”•
