The city has submitted eight projects to the U.S. Department of Energy for funding consideration. A total of 450 counties are eligible for the grants.
The largest expenditure is $3.3 million for construction of 17 miles of new bike trails, followed by $2.5 million to retrofit traffic lights at 730 of the city’s 1,100 intersections with high-efficiency light-emitting diodes, or LEDs.
Other projects include retrofitting street lights with LEDs, energy-efficiency improvements at the City County Building, and installation of green roofs and solar panels at Indy Parks facilities.
