Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Marvin Jenkins said work on the Indiana 45/46 Bypass project should begin within two months after the contract is awarded Aug. 12.
The approximately $44 million project will take about three years to complete. It will widen to four lanes the bypass around the north and east sides of the Bloomington campus. The bypass serves Assembly Hall and Memorial Stadium.
The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce and Indiana University have targeted the project as one key to the region’s economic vitality.
