Republican precinct committee members elected Scott Schneider during a caucus last night to replace Teresa Lubbers, who resigned from the Senate to become the state’s higher education commissioner.
Schneider’s term representing Senate District 30, which covers parts of northern Marion and southern Hamilton counties, will run through the 2012 election.
Schneider won in the second round of voting, defeating Indianapolis Councilman Ryan Vaughn 61-38. Vaughn had been endorsed by Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard for the seat.
The 42-year-old Schneider is the vice president of sales and marketing for Mister Ice of Indianapolis.
Republicans hold a 33-17 majority in the Senate.
