Officials expect about 7,100 freshmen when the fall semester starts in late August. IU vice provost Roger Thompson said that would be a good enrollment figure because the school plans on at least 7,000 freshmen each year.
The fall 2008 freshman class of 7,564 was the largest ever at the Bloomington campus.
Some 600 freshmen and other new students who paid $100 enrollment deposits have not enrolled. But Thompson told The Bloomington Herald-Times that he did not believe the 4.6-percent tuition increase approved this month for in-state students has had much of an effect on enrollment.
