Larry Nassar worked at Indianapolis-based USA Gymnastics, the national governing body for the sport, and at Michigan State University. Federal Judge Janet Neff followed the government's recommended sentence Thursday.
Neff said the 54-year-old Nassar "should never again have access to children."
Investigators found more than 37,000 images of child porn on Nassar's electronic devices in 2016.
Separately, Nassar has pleaded guilty to molesting numerous gymnasts with his hands in the Lansing, Michigan, area under the guise of treatment. Among his victims are several Olympians.
He'll be sentenced in those cases in January.
USA Gymnastics has hired a new CEO and made other changes in the wake of the scandal caused by Nassar's actions.
