Michigan-based Mort Meisner Associates, which represents Nguyen, confirmed the move on its web site.
Nguyen will be a general assignment reporter at WBBM, said a source familiar with the situation. At WISH, Nguyen appeared primarily during the evening newscasts and on some weekends.
Officials for WISH-TV said Nguyen is leaving to be part of a bigger market that she considers her hometown. Her last day will be Feb. 28.
Nguyen, who joined WISH-TV in January 2015, is a Southern California native. But she’s no stranger to the Windy City. She graduated from DePaul University in Chicago where she studied journalism and biology.
Nguyen got her start in broadcast journalism as an intern at WGN and WLS in Chicago. She then worked at WTVO-TV and WQRF-TV in Rockford, Illinois, where she learned handled reporting, anchoring, producing, shooting, and editing. She later worked in Kansas and Oklahoma before moving to WISH-TV.
Nguyen joined WISH-TV just as the station lost its CBS affiliation to local rival WTTV-TV Channel 4 and began expanding its news operations.
