As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowMedical-device maker PMC Smart Solutions is wrapping up a $5 million expansion at its Shelbyville manufacturing plant that will triple its current medical-manufacturing space.
The project, which is expected to be complete this month, adds another 10,000 square feet to the facility, bringing its total size to 80,000 square feet. Production is to start in the new space in mid-May.
The expansion includes a certified clean room for manufacturing, plastic-injection-molding machines and medical-device assembly space, as well as employee offices and meeting areas.
Lisa Jennings, PMC’s president and CEO, told IBJ the expansion will allow the Shelbyville facility to add some product lines, including components for interocular lens implants and vessel-closure implant devices.
PMC is a Cincinnati-based company that does contract manufacturing of complex devices and components for the medical, automotive and electronics industries. Its Shelbyville facility, which employs 150 people, opened in 1973.•
