La Plaza, the group that organizes Fiesta Indianapolis, announced that it “decided to support the events by the Mexican Consulate, Indiana Latino Expo and Indiana Latino Institute during National Hispanic Heritage Month” instead.
The group said “competition for limited sponsorship funding did play a role in this decision.”
Fiesta Indianapolis traditionally takes place the third Saturday in September at American Legion Mall and draws more than 15,000 attendees. The full-day event features food vendors, live music, children’s activities and community service booths.
Organizers said they would decide whether to host the event again in September 2019 prior to La Plaza’s dinner event in May.•
