The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is breaking ground on a $29 million academic building that will include collaborative workspaces and design studios.

A ceremonial groundbreaking is planned Friday for the building, which is expected to be ready for the Terre Haute school's 2021-22 school year.

The building also will include flexible classrooms and chemistry laboratories, and give students access to a prototyping laboratory, laser-cutting devices, machine tools and a woodworking shop.

It's designed with a central atrium and expansive windows that will showcase the work taking place within.

School officials say that design will make the building a "window into Rose" that showcases the laboratory activities going on inside.

A $15 million gift from an anonymous donor is footing about half of the building's cost.
