Steel Green Manufacturing LLC launched operations earlier this year and recently moved into a facility that previously housed Walter Peyton Power Equipment at 920 S. State Road 39. Steel Green is leasing the roughly 13,000-square-foot facility just outside the Lebanon Business Park.
Now, the startup expects to add 58 employees by 2022. The jobs would pay an average salary of $40,000 a year, according to an application for tax incentives from the city.
On Tuesday night, the Lebanon City Council approved a personal property tax abatement for the company. The four-year abatement will save the company about $7,900.
While small, the economic development deal demonstrates to Steel Green that Lebanon and Boone County officials want the manufacturer to continue growing in Lebanon, said Molly Whitehead, executive director of Boone County Economic Development.
“This is an instance where you’ve got some high-tech work being performed here in Lebanon,” she told the council.
Steel Green Manufacturing was founded in August by five former L.T. Rich Products Inc. employees. L.T. Rich Products was a leading manufacturer of commercial lawn care equipment before it was acquired by the Toro Co. in March.
Steel Green specialized in designing and manufacturing stand-on, zero-turn mowers and spreader machines.
A company representative told the council Tuesday night the Steel Green’s products are already performing well at trade shows.
