Riverview Health plans to build a combined urgent care and emergency room on Hazel Dell Parkway in Carmel.

In February, the Noblesville-based healthcare system announced it would build four freestanding facilities with combination emergency room departments and a urgent-care centers.

Riverview Health said it would build the centers in north Carmel, west Carmel, Fishers and the Nora area of Indianapolis. At the time, specific locations had not yet been determined, a spokesperson told IBJ.

Now, one facility is under construction in Fishers at the northwest corner of 116th Street and the Exit 5 Parkway, and the health care system has submitted plans to build a similar facility at 14585 Hazel Dell Parkway, just south of 146th Street, in north Carmel.

Faegre Baker Daniels LLP filed the plans on behalf of Riverview Health, which is under contract to purchase the land from Fifth Third Bank. The former bank branch building on the site is vacant.

Riverview Health would build an 11,500-square foot-facility on the 1.9-acre parcel. The project is estimated to cost $8 million.

Faegre Baker Daniels has asked Carmel for two variances for development standards related to the size of the building and signage.

The facility will deliver emergency and urgent care medical services under one roof as a licensed outpatient department of Riverview Health. Patients will be able to see a board-certified ER trained physician for all services with no appointment.

“The medical facility will serve adults and children, treating everything from sore throats and high fevers to chest pain and other life-threatening conditions,” documents for the project state.

Staffing will include physicians, registered nurses, radiology technologists and clinical technicians.

If the variances are approved, construction is expected to begin in summer 2019.
