Smith’s last day with CBS4Indy and Fox59 was Wednesday, he said in social media posts.
In addition to reporting, Smith anchored weekend evening newscasts and was a primary fill-in anchor on weekdays. He also served as acting weekend managing editor.
“After four-plus exhilarating years, this is my last day at CBS4 Indy and FOX59 News,” Smith said on Facebook. “And what a ride! From lifelong friends to reporting that brought us across the country—a genuine thank you for welcoming me and my family with some true Hoosier hospitality. And thank you for your trust.”
The move to WISN-TV Channel 12, the ABC affiliate in Milwaukee, will return Smith to the state where he worked for seven years before moving to Indianapolis in December 2014. He was an anchor and investigative reporter at WBAY-TV Channel 2 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from 2007 to 2014.
A Minnesota native, Smith said he would be happy to be working closer to family.
Officials at Fox59 and CBS4Indy could not be reached for immediate comment on Smith’s departure.
