Attorney Kathleen DeLaney told The Indianapolis Star that Roncalli High School has notified her client, Lynn Starkey, that her contract won't be renewed for next school year.
Starkey filed a discrimination charge in November with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Roncalli.
The archdiocese said in a statement Monday the Catholic schools' staff and teachers are employed on one-year contracts that don't automatically renew. It said "Starkey is currently in breach of her contract with Roncalli High School because she is in a civil union that is considered 'contrary to a valid marriage as seen through the eyes of the Catholic Church.'"
Starkey married her spouse in 2015. She has worked at the school for almost 40 years, including more than 20 as a guidance counselor.
Roncalli placed guidance counselor Shelly Fitzgerald on administrative leave in August because she's in a same-sex marriage.
