Indianapolis station WISH-TV Channel 8 plans to add a 4 p.m. newscast to its broadcast schedule, owner Nexstar Media Group announced Monday.

The CW affiliate said it would launch the hour-long newscast this fall, with an exact date to be announced later.

WISH currently runs episodes of ‘Family Feud” in the 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. times slots.

The station said adding five extra hours a week will boost local news and programming at the station to 75 hours per week, including 12-1/2 hours per day on weekdays.

“More than half our broadcast day will consist of live, local programming produced out of our own studios,” Randy Ingram, WISH vice president and general manager, said in written remarks.

Ingram said the station would hire additional on-air and off-air employees to produce the content. He wasn’t specific about the number of hires.

WISH said it has nearly doubled its local news programming hours since 2014 in increments and has seen ratings and revenue growth with each expansion.

The station added a half-hour to its Saturday and Sunday morning newscasts late last year and added an hour to its weekday morning newscasts in 2017.
