Democratic Rep. Andre Carson of Indianapolis next year.
Marvin Scott announced Tuesday that he was entering the
race to provide "fresh ideas and alternative solutions to Congress." Scott is a sociology professor at Butler whose
most-prominent political campaign came in 2004 when he was the Republican challenger to Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh. Bayh won
with 62 percent of the vote.
Scott also was the unsuccessful GOP nominee in 1994 and 2000 for the congressional
district that covers most of Indianapolis.
Carson won election last year to a full term succeeding his late grandmother
Julia Carson.
