The Muncie area is on a roll attracting call centers with IBM’s announcement Monday that it would locate a center in Daleville and hire 500 to staff it.
The decision follows Sallie Mae’s opening in October of a Muncie debt collection center, which will employ 700. Lifetouch National School Studios, a school photography company, also operates a center in Muncie.
The momentum might result in other companies plunking call centers in the region, according to The Star Press of Muncie.
An executive of student loan giant Sallie Mae, based at Reston, Va., said last fall that several competitors located call centers near Buffalo, N.Y., after Sallie Mae chose the area for its own center.
