About 70 of the 100 jobs Veolia Water plans to create in Indianapolis in a relocation of its Houston headquarters will be in finance, accounting, information technology, and technical and support services, and pay an average compensation of $100,000 a year.

Although some of the positions will be transferred from Houston, most will be filled locally, the city of Indianapolis said in an announcement this afternoon.

The company received $1.6 million in state and local economic development incentives.

Veolia Water, which is owned by France-headquartered Veolia Environmental, manages all operations, maintenance and customer service facets of Indianapolis’ waterworks system. Veolia Water employs a total of 375 in Indianapolis.

Veolia Water opened a training center on the downtown canal in February, one of 12 it operates globally. The center offers nearly 200 training courses.
