The Naval Surface Warfare Center at Crane has increased procurement spending in Indiana four-fold in the past six years, according to the Times-Mail of Bedford.

The base bought $1.3 billion of goods and services from Indiana companies in the most recent fiscal year, the newspaper reported.

Most of the increase has been driven by the state’s Buy Indiana Initiative, which encourages Indiana companies to sell to the base. An annual expo that links companies with the base was held last week at French Lick Resort Casino in French Lick.

Located between Bloomington and Evansville, the base stores ordnance and develops electronic equipment for the military.

A new industrial park on the edge of the base called Westgate @ Crane is being developed by Westgate @ Crane Development Co., which is based in Broad Ripple.
