Emmis announced today that it has sold the RadioNow brand, WNOU trademark and station imaging to Radio One Inc. of Lanham, Md., for an undisclosed price. The RadioNow format began airing on 100.9 FM at 3:30 this afternoon. The station previously had a smooth jazz format.
Sources said Radio One is negotiating to hire the on-air talent that Emmis dismissed when it dropped the RadioNow format.
Emmis ditched RadioNow to make way for shifting news and talk programming to 93.1 FM from the company’s WIBC-AM 1070 at the beginning of the year. Until the transition takes place, 93.1 FM is playing Christmas music.
Radio One said in a statement that it intends to continue the RadioNow format on 100.9 FM.
Emmis said Oct. 8 that WIBC, which had focused on news for decades and in recent years talk, will become an affiliate of ESPN Radio.
