The layoff was prompted by slowing demand, the Coburg, Ore.-based company said. High fuel prices are playing a roll in the slowdown, the South Bend Tribune reported, quoting a company official.
However, Monaco hopes interest rate cuts will bring buyers back, and result in recalling many of the workers.
The plant is between South Bend and Goshen.
