An improved economy might result in construction on the Cabela’s store at Greenwood resuming as early as next year, according to the Daily Journal of Franklin.

The project was brought to an abrupt halt by the Sidney, Neb., outdoor retailer in January after the slowing economy began to hurt sales at stores it opened last year.

Cabela’s also said it plans to open smaller stores of 80,000 to 125,000 square feet in order to justify placing more than one in a region. The Greenwood store will get one of the smaller stores.

After Cabela’s announced the delay, a developer with plans for a water park, movie theater and other attractions said it would wait until Cabela’s proceeded. However, a hotel developer is moving ahead with construction because its traffic is primarily tied to Interstate 65 travelers rather than to customers driving to Cabela’s to shop.
