The area could receive 100 generators, which could turn out 200 megawatts, enough to power about 66,000 houses.
The area has plenty of open land, wind and transmission lines. Now, Horizon plans to determine whether the average wind speed is at least 15 mph at 200 to 300 feet above the ground.
Local officials are interested in capturing taxes from the anticipated capital investment of $500 million, and land-owners want income that would be derived from leasing land for the towers.
