Union Tank Car Co. said it is consolidating production to cope with a downturn in the market, but International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 524, which represents the hourly workers, contends the company is shifting work to non-union plants to save money.
A total of 350 hourly and 70 salaried workers will lose their jobs come May.
The company is 60-percent owned by Warren Buffet’s investment firm, Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
