  1. Would love to be proven wrong, but I don’t think they stand a chance. The current teams have shown little interest in another team cutting their pie up smaller.

    1. Since you seem to be an expert on every subject published by IBJ, I certainly hope your opinion proves you wrong on this one!

    2. “ Andretti now needs to reach a satisfactory commercial deal with FOM, and there has long been a known resistance to the field getting expanded beyond 10 teams.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has been consistent that any new outfit would need to bring a clear added value to the championship.

“As we always said, we need to make sure that the decision is right for the business,” he said before the summer break.

“And this is what I think is the duty of the FIA and us together, that has to be taken. So that is another decision that will be taken in the next couple of months.”

A statement from Formula 1 on Monday was non-committal about the Andretti development.

“We note the FIA’s conclusions in relation to the first and second phases of their process and will now conduct our own assessment of the merits of the remaining application,” it said.”

    3. Kevin, thanks for being a fan.

Michael and Dan Towriss will likely have to resort to something along the lines of what SMU did to get back into big-time college football … lots of money.

  2. “ While the FIA’s due diligence process is a rigorous assessment of each applicant’s sporting, technical and financial analysis, the final phase essentially boils down to whether Andretti can convince the commercial rights holder to drop an objection it has had for a very long time.

F1 has been lukewarm, at best, regarding the prospect of a new team joining the grid and has the ability to refuse a commercial agreement, even though it would be controversial and open to a potential legal challenge.”

  3. FOM is happy with the 3-team championship shuffle, while 17 teams linger as back markers hoping to get a constructors or championship point. FOM is vested in not upsetting the apple cart and its short sided thinking has made F1 an absolutely boring overpriced series that is more about brand loyalty than racing. Andretti and Cadillac with a US driver line up may at least make it interesting, until FOM/FIA let the sporting regulations interfere with their possible success!

    1. Agreed! Let them race. Give Americans what they want before it’s too late and people get bored with F1… again.
