30 thoughts on “Beckwith upsets Mike Braun’s pick for running mate at GOP convention

  1. This is what the Republican Party deserves – a takeover by the fringe.

“They are coming to silence all of us”

What’s the saying, equality feels like oppression when you run things?

Great if you’re a white male evangelical Christian. For all others, welp, time to bend the knee.

    1. It has always amazed me why liberals are so adverse to common sense and morality

    2. It has always amazed me how the party of Trump is so adverse to common sense and morality….

    3. Religion and government ain’t peanut butter and chocolate. They’re not better together, they’re better as far away from each other as they can get.

It’s not the problem of the government or the culture if Christianity is waning in influence. Christianity is waning in influence because they’ve lost the plot.

Jesus didn’t preach a gospel of overthrowing the secular government of Rome but it sure hasn’t stopped his followers from thinking what the world needs is a Christian version of Iran.

  2. Politics has always been an ugly game and that is one reason why so many good people cannot stomach it. We do need to come together despite our differences, in order to preserve this great nation, that is increasingly becoming polarized by different philosophies and values. This is a huge challenge for us all.

  3. The 891 delegates (or 898 as some reporting has indicated) are bozos who voted for Beckwith. Braun may want to know who those bozos are because there’s no support to a Braun governorship from those 891 who voted against his pick for LG. And Beckwith has already gone on record to make sure Braun tows the mark. Playing cop to police the governor should Braun be elected, really? More of an in-the-way obstructionist. And, hey Micah, what do you lend to the main task of State government, that being economic development? Let’s see you bring business to this State so you can have a few extra bucks to play with as LG, should Braun get elected. Likely be very iffy for him now…………………………….Thanks a lot!!!!!!! And to those bozo delegates, you all might as well switch to the left side (go be Democrats) if you haven’t already.

    1. Beckwith’s primary goal for the next 4 years will be to use the office to raise his profile.

Braun seems to think that he’s simply going to boss Beckwith around and it sure seems like that isn’t going to happen, regardless of the meager duties the lieutenant governor’s office has here in Indiana.

I guess it could be fun to watch, except that they’re supposed to be moving the state forward and it’s not supposed to be a food fight between a rich guy with an ego and someone eager for Christian sharia law to be the law of the land.

  4. The national Republican Party is a chaotic mess. It has now trickled down into Indiana State politics. Until they get back to conservatism without radicalism, I am voting Democrat.

  5. This is much ado about nothing. Braun will win the Governorship and Trump will win Indiana by about 12%. Although I would have rather seen McGuire get the nod the people have spoken. That is what makes our country still the best in the world.

  6. Braun is thought of as a RINO in many circles based on his voting for 40+ tax increases while in the senate. Like any good marriage Braun and Beckwith will challenge themselves and compliment themselves at the appropriate times

    1. It is s areal problem when you have a Lt. Governor looking out for the people and not the Indiana GOP Establishment.

  7. Conservative independent here. This just goes to show that one party governance is never a good thing for the “one party.” Arrogance, internal strife and factional fights, purity tests to see who’s really a true believer, careless corruption, and even simple personality differences eventually lead to a crumbling of the foundation under the edifice.

For all the Dems in this comments section crowing about Republicans, take a look at California. Or Chicago. The utter mess wrought by one party governance is not certainly limited to Indiana or to one party.

  8. As always, laughing at the IBJ Dems. It’s an election. Grow up. Beckwith was not my choice either, but now you know how we feel when you mopes blindly elect Carson/Hogsett/Mears every cycle.
And yes, Joe, the people did speak through elected delegates. You are the Democrat version of John Jacob. You just need to start calling anything you don’t like Tyranny!!!

    1. I love how to Chuck anyone who doesn’t take what Republicans have to offer is a Democrat.

Heaven forbid that that the party of Hudnut, Lugar, and Daniels is now the party of Beckwith, Banks, Morales, and Rokita and some us point out the … rather obvious decline in quality. It’s like that movie where Michael Keaton kept cloning himself.

Indiana Republicans keep selecting awful candidates because there is no effective deterrent to doing so, not since 2012. They can nominate any fool and they get elected. The slide will continue, to our detriment, until they lose an election.

The same is true in reverse in Marion County.

By the way, in the case of Carson, maybe Indiana Republicans would beat him if they didn’t gerrymander the districts such that Indianapolis southsiders have to share a congressional representative with Richmond. Republicans are choosing quantity over quality, which is great in the short term but bad in the long term.

  9. Lost in the hysteria: Braun is a Trump cuck and McGwire had a Trump endorsement. Indiana LT Gov decided by delegates is not exactly a barometer, but still an interesting indicator about the influence of a guy who once promised so much winning we would get tired of it
