I know ethanol and biodiesel have their own negatives, but I’d like to point out that “ethanol emits 46% less carbon than gasoline” is misleading. Ethanol emits no carbon, because all of the carbon in it was absorbed from the atmosphere by the corn plant in the past year. Petroleum products cause climate change because extracting them and releasing their carbon puts carbon into the atmosphere that was sequestered underground millions of years ago when the earth’s atmosphere was much more carbon-rich and warmer.
Where does all the extra electricity to run electric vehicles come from? The federal regulators may have caused a shift from fossil fuels, but if Texas has problems with its windmills when cold weather strikes, what happens in the Midwest when it really gets cold? How do you store enough electricity when the wind is not there and it is dark? Electric vehicles sound great until you need electricity for them. Finally, what happened to the laws of thermodynamics on the loss of energy everytime it is converted from one form to another, such as from heat to mechanical work? Perpetual motion machines are still impossible.
