NFL players are not robots.
If the NFL expands the season, then they need to expand the allowed roster size and cap.
Go back to a 14 game schedule. Fans don’t want “more games”
Definitely think players should get: 2-4 player increase to roster size (depth) & perhaps keep practices squads 1-3 player larger too. More salary cap space or guarantee for an 18th game added. Possibly consider expaning season a bit to add for sure 2 bye weeks in a season. IF NFL leads with goodwill and goodies for the players, anything is possible. But honestly, beyond 18 it would kind of seem ridiculous. I totally felt 16 was fine.
A really good option would be to expand the season to 18 games, expand the rosters, and limit players to no more than 16 games per season. It would give them breaks that are much needed, but would also create an interesting dynamic with coaching strategies and roster depth.
While your proposal has merit, they don’t need to be expanding the regular season at all.
You knew that when they expanded to 17 games, 18 was right around the corner. It’s a huge mistake. Given the health problems that the players encounter later in life, they need to be reducing the season, not expanding it. And stop pretending that reducing the pre-season schedule to add a game to the regular season is no change. The regular season starters are often not going to play in pre-season games or play limited minutes.
