  1. Intriguing data from Regenstreif. Their statewide data set says that on April 28, while the sample was being taken, there was a total of 28,700 positive tests for COVID since the beginning of the pandemic. The sampling indicates that 2.8 percent of Indiana’s 6.73 million people has actually been infected by late April–or about 190,000 people. So, for each person who tested positive by then, there were 5.6 who had been infected but had not been tested. If that ratio holds (it shouldn’t, because the fraction of people testing positive has been going down), today there would be roughly 5 times the 90,000 people who have been tested who actually have been infected–450,000 or about 6-7 percent of the the population. In any case, a long way from herd immunity, which is mostly quoted as 70 percent but could be somewhat lower. It will be good to get additional random samples like the one taken in April.
