Funny that in the previous article, a commenter tried to blame the closing of Crackers on the mayor (it gets pretty tiring, all of the IBJ commenters who blame every downtown problem on Mayor Hogsett). Will those commenters now return and give the mayor credit, now that this has all worked out OK? Or will they come out and admit that they were wrong, that it was largely an issue with rent, the landlord and the pandemic? The main people who believe downtown is a heaping shambles are the commenters on the IBJ website. Other folks — including about 100,000 visitors last weekend who took part in yet another successfully staged, nationally watched downtown Indianapolis event — know that our downtown is pretty amazing, in far better shape than many Midwest downtowns, and an exciting place to be.
What exactly does the Mayor deserve credit for, again? This administration has been, at best, a let down and at worst, a step back.
Blame the blacks, generate funds. Rinse wash repeat
Steve D. – Spot on! Indianapolis is on a roll, and downtown is the economic engine that fuels not just the entire city but the state as well. Credit goes to the mayor, the city-county council, and the business community in pushing back against the Republican state legislations who keep trying to cripple the city for personal, petty purposes. And that, in a nutshell, drives the critics and naysayers bonkers.
Thanks Tony Merha. Glad not to loose the Club.
I sure hope that the owner wasn’t REALLY wanted the club to close but it’s way easier to blame the pandemic and protests than to admit defeat that came in the form of the competition.
