There needs to be an investigation into the state’s process for reviewing and approving payments. Remarkably, invoices with no details failed to raise any red flags inside whatever agency was processing payments. And heads need to roll for all in the inept chain of command who paid little attention to this massive fraud.
Absolutely agree – it is inexcusable that there was no oversight (or incompetence in oversight) to the tune of $85M
The charter schools were paying these “vendors” moneg without detailed invoices.
The state was paying the charter schools big dollars by their normal process (per student rate) and the state apparently never thought to verify whether all those kids were really enrolled in the schools.
When can we expect state and federal law enforcement agencies to file charges? These officials need to be held accountable for defrauding Indiana taxpayers.
