  1. I find it hard to believe that IMS does not have a written contingency plan on how this situation should be handled. With as many yellow flag finishes that have happened in the last 15 years or so, one would think the powers that be would have created a plan so the race does not end on a yellow flag, and it is not a one-lap sprint to the finish. For example, if a yellow flag comes out with less than 15 laps left, the race is red flagged and it is a minimum of two green-flag laps to finish the race. If this example plan had been in place, they would have red flagged the race with 4 or 5 laps left, giving them at least two laps to finish under green. It does not matter how they structure the plan, at least everyone is aware of the plan going in and no one can be upset. It is always when there are “unwritten” rules that issues arise.
