  1. People who commit these financial crimes need to go to the slammer for 20 years.

    This was her plea bargain agreement to keep her out of prison for up to 20 years (actual sentencing would be more like 5-8 years),
    “In the combined petition, Burke agreed to plead guilty to one count of wire fraud and four counts of false income tax returns. The parties agreed that she will pay the $976,733.29 back to the school and plus an additional $141,190 in restitution to the IRS.

    As for time in prison, the parties did not agree on a specific sentence, but the government “has agreed to recommend a sentence at the low end of the applicable Sentencing Guideline Range … .”

    She is going to pay a million dollars in restitution, with what income? 80% of the restitutions in Indiana go unpaid. Once her probation is over in 3 years, she is free.
