Gallery Bistro & Bar, 110 S. Pennsylvania St., served customers for the final time on Aug. 11, owner Alison Keefer said. The restaurant opened across the street from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in July 2020.
The location was susceptible to “constant sales swings,” Keefer told the IBJ.
Gallery Bistro & Bar was one of three Gallery Pastry restaurants in Indianapolis. Gallery Pastry Shop, 4573 N. College Ave., and Gallery on 16th, 319 E. 16th St., continue to operate.
Keefer said no staff members lost jobs because of the downtown closure.
“We moved the pastry team to our 46th Street location,” she said. “We have been able to lighten the workload of some managers by bringing in help to the other locations.”
The original Gallery Pastry Shop, known for its brunch crepes and mimosas, opened in 2016 at the 54th & Monon Shops retail center. Gallery Bistro & Bar opened four years later, and Gallery on 16th opened in 2021.
Gallery Pastry Shop moved to the intersection of East 46th Street and College Avenue in 2023. The Art Moderne building, originally a Kroger supermarket in 1932, previously was home to Next Door American Eatery and ND streetBar—two concepts co-founded by Kimbal Musk, brother of Elon Musk—from 2018 to 2022.
Keefer mentioned that she recently became the mother to her third child. “I have three boys, all 3 and under,” she said.
Streamlining Gallery Pastry from three to two locations is a relief, she said.
“It’s bittersweet,” said Keefer, who grew up in Fort Wayne. “I’ve never closed without moving to something else, but I think the relief is coming from knowing I can now focus more time on my family.”

All retail food sales are under pressure. Sad to see this one go.
Hopefully another restaurant will move in. Hopefully when the two hotels are completed it will generate more traffic. Maybe some housing could be incorporated into the new development.
