Restaurant Hoagies & Hops announced Monday that it plans to close its Fletcher Place location at the end of the year and concentrate on its flagship location in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood.

Hoagies & Hops opened the Fletcher Place eatery at 719 Virginia Ave., near Fountain Square, in February, with a more limited menu than the one it features at the Butler-Tarkington spot at 4155 Boulevard Place. The restaurant shares the Fletcher Place site with Chilly Water Brewing Co., which opened its brewery there in 2019.

Owner Kristina Mazza, a native of southeast Pennsylvania, started Hoagies & Hops in 2015 inside Flat 12 Bierwerks at 414 Dorman St. She moved it to the Boulevard Place location, near Butler University, in early 2019. The restaurant ships its hoagie bread from Liscio’s Rolls in South Jersey and is known for its cheesesteaks.

Mazza said Hoagies & Hops will continue to partner with Chilly Water, which operates a taproom at the Butler Tarkington site.

“It’s bittersweet to share that we’ve made the difficult decision to close the Hoagies & Hops Fletcher Place location,” Mazza said in a written statement. “Our last day operating the kitchen in Fletcher Place will be Friday, Dec. 31, and we will be closing at 7 p.m. for a private party. We are extremely grateful for the experience we had serving our amazing downtown customers.

“Moving forward, we will be taking time to focus on our Butler-Tarkington location partnering with Chilly Water Brewery Tap Room while getting our food truck rolling so we can serve Hoagies & Hops to our customers anywhere! Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you at our Butler-Tarkington location and at our food truck stops.”

    1. That could arguably be true for Indianapolis – although I don’t believe that it is. It certainly is not true of the Midwest.

  1. I actually thought the food Chilly Water Brewing offered in that location was better than what Hoagies & Hops offered. I hope Chilly Water will go back to their prior menu.
