4 thoughts on “Indiana charter schools could have easier path to acquiring district buildings

  1. Charter Schools get to steal taxpayer funded buildings from IPS.

I suggest that IPS starts a tax payer referendum to share $1 a year to each charter school operating in the district, so that we are exempt from giving away school buildings.

This is just one more plan by “conservatives” to destroy functioning government institutions and replace them with private or religious institutions, while it is proven that states with expansive charter systems have significantly lower educational outcomes. For conservatives, it’s a win-win-win. Dysfunctional government, money in cronies pockets, and voters that will be too stupid to know they are being duped.

  2. According to publicly available information, there are currently 112 charter schools in Indiana serving 49,543 students (for an average of 442 students per school).

This compares to 1,842 public schools serving 1,030,000 students (an average of 559 students), and 5,353 private schools serving 114,892 students (an average of 21 students).

  3. Sen. Rogers (conveniently?) omits this fact:

Those under/un-used buildings were paid for by taxpayers of a specific school district. Vouchers and charter separate on a completely different system which does not recognize or use geographic boundaries. It’s an uneven mix, to be kind.

If only she and other legislators were as considerate of the statutory public school mission, as they are of charters.
