The state also reported five new deaths due to the coronavirus, the lowest daily number since Oct. 4. Reported deaths due to COVID-19 had exceeded single digits for 111 straight days prior to Sunday.
The department said 8,703 new individuals were tested Saturday in Indiana, bringing the cumulative total in that category to 2,957,867.
Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 fell again, from 1,648 on Friday to 1,548 on Saturday, the lowest number since Oct. 22. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.
The state said more than 143,000 Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as Sunday at 5 a.m. More than 562,000 had received the first dose of a vaccination.
