Indiana COVID-19 cases hit highest daily mark since Feb. 20

The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported 1,260 new COVIV-19 cases, the highest count in the daily report since Feb. 20, when 1,449 cases were counted.

Cases have topped 1,000 in five of the past eight daily reports.

The seven-day moving average of positive cases in Indiana was 1,020 on Tuesday, up from 802 two weeks ago.

The state reported 15 new deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday, raising the cumulative total to 12,694.

The health department reported the testing of 4,989 new individuals.

Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 jumped from 706 on Monday to 789 on Tuesday. The high mark was 3,460, set on Nov. 30.

The state said more than 1.29 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Wednesday at 5 a.m. More than 1.89 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.

Following are the latest COVID-19 numbers from the Indiana State Department of Health. The department updates its data daily based on information received through 11:59 p.m. the previous day.

** The health department reports the 7-day positivity rates with a six-day lag to allow time for more comprehensive results.

*New cases, deaths and tests are previously unreported cases, deaths and tests submitted to the Indiana State Health Department in the 24 hours through 11:59 p.m. the previous day. The cases and testing categories typically contain numerous duplicates—as many as 20% or more—that are later eliminated from the cumulative totals.
